PEDs Get Gordon Suspended

Miami Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon got popped for performance enhancing drugs and will miss a half season worth of games as a result.  Gordon, last year’s National League batting champion (.333 avg) and major league steals leader (58), was busted for exogenous testosterone, and clostebol.

This puts a huge damper on Miami’s season, as their offense is built around Gordon, Christian Yelich, and Giancarlo Stanton.  Removing Gordon for half the season is going to make it more difficult for the Marlins to gain traction this season.  There was an outside shot they might be able to snag a wild card spot and sneak into the playoffs, but without their leadoff hitter, I don’t see the rest of the lineup being able to pick up that slack.

It’s important to note that Gordon took full responsibility for what was in his body and will not appeal or fight the claims.  He toed the company line by saying he did not knowingly take them, which is probably true, but all athletes know they’re responsible for what they put in their bodies, regardless of how it got in there.

I don’t see this following Gordon in the future, as I believe it’ll be forgotten after he’s been back for twenty games.
