Edwin’s Just Wingin’ It

Known for his “one flap up” home run trot, Blue Jays third baseman Edwin Encarnacion has had a plethora of occasions to break it out lately.  He’s been absolutely on fire over his past six games, record a .458 avg (11-24), 6 HR, 14 RBI, and 6 BB.  What a week of meaningful production, as Toronto won all six of those games.

He now leads the American League in RBI with 61, and his 18 homer runs put him tied for third with Seattle second baseman Robinson Cano.

Currently, the impending free agent is on pace for 42 long balls, and 143 driven in with a .255 average and 38 doubles.  Sounds to me like Edwin is on pace for a giant payday.  At age 33, he is definitely reaching the end of his prime, and anything more than a three-year deal won’t look pretty on the back end of it.  He should still get it though considering his production and the demand for quality bats in upcoming this market.
